The PIPA auctions started the new year with a number of prestigious records: 17 young birds of Gaby Vandenabeele were sold for an impressive 18,765 EURO per pigeon. The previous record was 15,030 EURO/pigeon for 10 young birds, and it had been set at another Gaby Vandenabeele auction, his first ever on PIPA.

Gaby Vandenabeele – 17 pigeons – 18,765 EURO/youngster
Since June 2015 Gaby Vandenabeele has been auctioning his young birds exclusively on PIPA, and his first ever auction was a great success with a record average of 15,030 EURO/youngster for 10 youngsters. Many believed that it would be nearly impossible to break this record. And now, one and a half years into the collaboration between PIPA & Gaby Vandenabeele, a number of new records have been set. The record for highest average has basically been smashed: the new average sale price of 18,765 EURO for 17 young birds is astounding, and almost impossible to improve.
An overview of the highest averages ever achieved in PIPA auctions for young birds can be found here: https://www.pipa.be/en/content/pipa-milestones

And this was not the only record for Gaby today. He had already broken the record for highest overall revenue in a young birds’ auction in January 2016, when he raised 274,200 EURO for 24 youngsters (11,425 EURO/youngster). He has now managed to break this record as well, having raised 319,000 EURO for less youngsters.

Where will it stop? The Gaby Vandenabeele has been more popular than ever. This is no surprise, given the number of fanciers that achieved great results with Gaby’s pigeons in the past 30 years. A Chinese fancier managed to win the title of 1st Ace Pigeon Pioneer Club (the country’s most prestigious ace pigeon title) just recently, with a 50% Vandenabeele descendant.

The most expensive Gaby Vandenabeele young bird used to cost 31,500 EURO, and it had been sold in his previous PIPA auction. Well, his most recent auction saw him auction no less than four different pigeons at a higher price:

  • Broer Super Romeo 222 : 39,000 EUR – China
  • Zoon Rudy 235: 38,500 EUR – China
  • Broer Super Romeo 221: 36,500 EUR – China
  • Zoon Rudy 223: 34,000 EUR – China

The 8 youngsters of Rudy in this auction were sold for an average of 26,750 EURO/yb
The 4 youngsters of Super Romeo in this auctino were sold for an average of 19,000 EURO/yb
The 17 youngsters have been sold to the following countries: China (14), Taiwan (1), USA (1) and Belgium (1)

Johan Grobbelaar – 6 pigeons – 3,583 EURO/pigeon
It was for the first time ever that PIPA was selling local ace pigeons from South-Africa, not linked to a major One Loft Race. Several South-African fanciers have had access to some of the strongest European breeds, thanks to the many youngsters that compete in their One Loft Races every season. Johan Grobbelaar for instance offered for sale two super class racing birds with local ace pigeon titles on their palmares. It was for the first time that such pigeons were offered for sale, and it was quite a success; the most expensive pigeon was African Ace, which goes to the US for 8,400 EURO. The 6 pigeons raised 21,500 EURO in total, and will be shipped to Taiwan (2), USA (2), China (1) and Japan (1).

Carlo Gyselbrecht – 7 pigeons – 1,671 EUR/youngster
In this auction we had 7 youngsters from Carlo Gyselbrecht’s best breeders. They raised 11,700 EURO and they have been sold to Taiwan (3), France (2), Spain (1) and Belgium (1). The most expensive youngster was a youngster of Nathan, paired to his own dam. This pigeon was sold to a Belgian fancier for 2,800 EURO.
