“A new world record”… That is what Andre Verbesselt has realised with the auction of his Aelbrecht collection. Even the technical problems yesterday couldn’t stop Andre shocking the pigeon world with an almost unrealistic total amount of 1.292.400 EURO for 202 pigeons, including 123 youngsters from 2011!
Staggering figures… That is the first reaction after the end of the auction of the branch of Marcel Aelbrecht. It was written in the stars that this would be a top auction, but no-one had dared think it would be such a gigantic success.
An average of 6.398 EURO / pigeon, knowing that not a single pigeon could present any racing results, is phenomenal. Of course Andre Verbesselt had dominated the One Loft Races worldwide over the last few years, in a way which no other Belgian had ever done, but the result achieved today is still exceptional.
The world record referred to in the title is the record of the highest turnover ever for an internet auction, which until today was held by Dr. Hans Peter & Peter Brockamp with 1.017.000 EURO. This auction broke the previous record by no less than 275.000 EURO!
The most expensive pigeon today was the “754 Son Bak 17”, one of the best children from Bak 17. After a long battle it was sold to Premier Stud in England for 110.000 EURO. Owner of this “Stud” is Graham Sparks. With this he clearly displayed his ambition to profile himself in the future as a top loft in both England, Belgium (via satellite lofts) and the One Loft Races.
Second most expensive pigeon was the nr. 1 breeding hen from Andre Verbesselt and direct child of the “Smallen 970”, namely “Miss Joice”, this hen moved to the PIPA Elite Center for 62.400 EURO.
Third most expensive today was the “Max”, super breeder for the One Loft Races and child of “753 Son Bak 17”, nest mate of “754” above and sold self for 40.400 EURO to Zhan Zhi Lin in Singapore. The “Max” was sold to Great Wall for 61.200 EURO.
Great Wall also bought the 4th most expensive pigeon today, namely a daughter Bak 17 BE08-4346245 for 47.400 EURO.
