Pigeon fanciers from as far afield as USA, Canada, China, Australasia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa will participate in the inaugural Victoria Falls World Challenge Pigeon Race on 28 January 2017 and also the five preceding training races, each with prize money of US$30,000.
Conservation efforts and under-privileged communities will gain significantly from this event, including highly commendable anti-poaching trusts whose under-funded, yet unyielding, work in the area protects a variety of species, such as rhinos, elephants and lions.
Wildlife will be supported through funding
We believe that Victoria Falls is the ultimate location for a one loft race. Apart from the amazing surroundings and destination to visit, it is ideal for the young birds. Homing at the Victoria Falls loft will not have any interference from other pigeons as the nearest other pigeon loft is 400 km away. Furthermore, it is not in a built up area and with the mighty Zambezi River and Victoria Falls next door, no pigeon will find it difficult to find!
Our experienced racing pigeon management team is in place to control training of the birds and management of our world-class loft which has a capacity of 5,000 pigeons at 80% of the perch space. The loft will receive pigeons between 1 July and 1 August 2016. Visit our website to find an agent in your country who can give you more details on when in June 2016 they will be receiving birds.
The loft is nearing completion under the steely blue Zimbabwean sky
After a quarantine period of 30 days we will start orientation of the birds and pre-training in September 2016. The hottest months in Victoria Falls are October to mid-November when the rains start. We will therefore be training the birds in the early morning and have short tosses at that time of year. After mid to end of November there is plenty of surface water and the temperatures normally decrease quite considerably. Our longer hotspot races will take place in December and January with these more favourable conditions, culminating with the final race at the end of January 2017. The full race and training programme can be viewed on our website.
The final young bird race will be over 400 km in tough, arid African conditions that will be a test-of-the-best and the winner will be crowned as the inaugural Victoria Falls World Challenge Pigeon Race champion and scoop the lucrative first prize of US$200,000.
The enticing prize money, and one of the world’s most majestic and safest tourist destinations, will ensure that this will be a supreme showcase for the world’s top breeders. The US$700,000 prize money for this annual event includes US$50,000 for the owner of the overall Champion Ace Pigeon.
The entry fee is USD$950 per pigeon with 4 reserves, although fanciers may choose to send less reserves if they wish.
